TDC1000 transducer for flow meter

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDM-ULTRASONIC-FLOW-TDC

Hi

I would like to know what sensor can be used for the flow meter together with the tdc1000-tdc7200evm - I am interested in the example design from this page: http://www.ti.com/tool/TIDM-ULTRASONIC-FLOW-TDC

The EVM contains one Steminc sensor for water level measurement - those are working for flow too?

The reason why I ask is that none of the sensors from this page: http://webench.ti.com/webench5/TDC/index.html?app=flowHead

seems to be available for purchase (no prices, no online store), the only one where I could see some online shopping was the Steminc one:

https://www.steminc.com/pzt/en/piezo-ceramic-disc-10x2mm-r-215-khz

I am aware of the "Interfacing a water flow sesnor to TDC1000-TDC7200EVM-022715.pdf" document but that one points to audiowell without a store ...

The best solution would be something 45 degree since the end target is a non intrusive solution (the one with the brass pipe is a good starter but it is intrusive).

Any input is appreciated, TY.

  • We will come back to you on this soon. Thanks, Vishy
  • Please check appendix A of this app note

    Thanks,
    Vishy
  • Already checked that doc ...

Contacted Audiowell two weeks ago, no answer so the brass pipe probably is out of the question.

The DYP-UL006 and PSC1.0M020100H2AD0-B0 are on alibaba - I guess I will have to try getting one of those.
  • We ordered our Audiowell transducer (p/n AW5Y0980K02L142Z: DN20 Brass Tube Flow Sensor Assembly includes transducers) through US supplier (based in GA)

  • Hi,

I am currently working on a project to detect the flow rate of water through a pipe and using the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM. I ordered the Audiowell Ultrasonic flow sensors (www.audiowell.com/.../product-detail.aspx and the Audiowell In-line Ultrasonic Digital Flow Meter (www.audiowell.com/.../product-detail.aspx. I would prefer to have a clamp on ultrasonic sensor that could work with the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM. I have seen many ultrasonic flow meters made by other companies that come with their own controller/electronics to interface with the sensor. Are you familiar with any universal or other brands that make clamp on ultrasonic sensors that could work with the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM? Or do you know of any documentation to mount the stand-alone Audiowell Ultrasonic flow sensors (www.audiowell.com/.../product-detail.aspx at 45 degree angles to detect flow rate and work with the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM? I am having trouble finding anything that will work or any references on how to build your own clamp on sensor.

Please help in any way you can.

  • Hi Vishy,

You may or may not be aware that Morgan Advanced Materials (technical ceramics) PZT business has been purchased by CeramTec. Hence, when selecting Morgan on the web page linked (webench.ti.com/.../index.html no information can be found. Likewise the information on the applications note you have linked will be out of date in this regard.

The PZT sites purchased by CeramTec have the same personnel and still makes the products previously marketed under the Morgan name. Would it be possible to update your data sheets and widgets to replace Morgan with CeramTec? The Morgan brand was first promoted by TI due to collaboration between the engineers on my site and TI; one of which was working on the project I am working on right now. I hope TI and now CeramTec can maintain the same relationship. Further information on CeramTec's PZT products can be found in the links below:
    www.ceramtec.com/.../
    www.ceramtec.com/.../

Could we potentially have a private conversation, either on TI's private messaging or via email? My work email is m.helal@ceramtec.co.uk

    Kind Regards,

    Mubasshir Helal

  • Hello Abbigail,

There is currently no documentation from TI on mounting of ultrasonic transducers for clamp on flow metering. I suggest contacting Audiowell for some advice on this matter. Once your mounting solution is complete, we will certainly be able to help in integrating it with the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM.
