LDC0851 Different characteristics between Ls and Lr

Hi

We are about to evaluate LDC0851 with several coils.

Then, we have following questions.

Should we use sensor coil and reference coil with same characteristic?
Can we choose the coils (sensor, reference) that have different diameters?

BestRegards

  • na na78,

I have moved your post to the Inductive sensing forum.
  • Hello Na,

Thank you for evaluating the LDC0851.

The LDC0851 is a simple differential inductance comparator. It switches when the inductance on the Lsense channel is smaller than that on the Lref channel (ADJ level 0 ).

Are there mechanical restrictions as to why you want to use two different coils for the Lsense and Lref? if this is the case, have you considered using a stacked coil sensor configuration?

The system design is much more trivial when you use the same coils for Lsense and Lref, so I would recommend going this route but as long as the inductance value for the two sensors are similar this is not a requirement.

I will be able to provide you with a more detailed more accurate answer if you can describe the application you are trying to develop with the LDC0851.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Regards.
