HDC1080, changed humidity value after resolder

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HDC1080

Dear Specialists,

My customer is evaluating HDC1080.

When the device was removed and resoldered by hand soldering, the humidity value was changed +10% after resolder.

Could you advise why this result was happen.

Also, Is there a condition of soldering?

I appreciate your great help.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Hi Shinichi,
After the hand soldering, the HDC1080 may exhibit a RH offset due to either the thermal stress of soldering or settling of the humidity sensor. It will slowly settle when the humidity sensor is exposed to ambient conditions.
As reported in the datasheet (section 9.3.1 page 18), we recommended to solder the HDC1080 using the standard soldering profile IPC/JEDEC J-STD-020 with peak temperatures of 260 °C.
Please let me know if this replies to your questions.

  • Dear Carmine

    Thank you for your reply.

I am going to send the answer to the customer.

    Also I have additional question.

    Could you please advise.

Does RH offset go back to the default (zero) after a long time?

    I appreciate your great help.

    Best regards,

    Shinichi

  • Hi Shinichi,
Sorry for the delay in the answer.
Yes I confirm that after soldering, if the device is exposed to ambient conditions for long time, the RH offset goes back to the standard conditions (RH accuracy = ±2%RH).
    Best regards,
    Carmine
  • Dear Camine

    Thank you for your reply.

I'm all right that RH offset by the hand soldering is back to normal for a long time.

    I appreciate your great help.

    Best regards,

    Shinichi
