Hi This is Gunce from Turkey,

We want to measure soil moisture by using FDC1004. In this case we develop an probe for sensing moisture with capacitance.

Small rings are connected to Shield of FDC1004 and upper big ring connected to Cin1 and Lower big ring is connected to GND.

we want to calculate real capacitance of probe in air and water. how can we measure capacitance (with shield layer)

you have any suggestions about sensor & probe?

is anyone measure moisture with this method.

Hi Gunce,

We do not know anyone who has measured moisture using this method. I would suggest testing it out first by connecting it to the FDC1004EVM. We also have a couple of app notes online that might help with designing a system for liquid level sensing.

Hello,

I expect that the middle small ring, when connected to a shield, will reduce sensitivity. Suggest you test it both ways, ring connected to the shield, and left floating.
