OPT3001 Layout Recommendations

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPT3001

Hello,

Is a 2 layer or 4 layer board recommended when using this part? In other words, how important is having a ground plane on the board with the OPT3001?

Also, is it recommended to place the bypass capacitor on the same or opposite side of the OPT3001. Same side allows the capacitor to be placed closer to the part; opposite side reduces secondary light reflections.

Thanks

  • Hi Daniel,

All of our EVM boards have been done with 2 layers, so that is fine.   Good grounding is always recommended, but this part is less worrisome about a full dedicated ground plane.

All of our EVMs have the bypass capacitor on the opposite side of the PCB, for optimal optical design, so that would be our recommendation.   Obviously, each design will need to consider its specific tradeoffs.

Let us know if you have more questions,
