HDC1080 - Relative Humidity Measurement

Hello Team,

I was looking into the HDC1080, and had a question regarding as to how relative humidity is measured relative to temperature.

My understanding is that %RH is measured as a ratio between the pressure of the waver vapor at a specific temperature, and the max quantity of water vapor that the air can hold at that specific temperature. As seen in the snaa216 app note equation (1):

Is this consistent with how the device determines the %RH, and if not is there any compensation that needs to be done?

  • Hi Javier,

    the formula:

represents the physical definition of relative humidity.

With the HDC1080 we calculates the RH% in indirect mode, taking advantage from the property of some polymers that change their capacitance in function of the relative humidity. Measuring the capacitance variations of our sensing element, we are able to obtain the relative humidity in the environment where the sensor is placed
In our measurement chain we already consider all the necessary compensations, so you don't need to take care about them.

Please let me know should you have any questions.

    Best regards,

  • Hello Carmine,

Thank you for your quick response.

My customer wanted to ensure that the reading did not need to be compensated due to temperature and from what you stated they will not need to.

    I appreciate the help!
