Linux/LDC1614EVM: What are the possibilities to measure 20 MH and the Q factor of the test inductor?

Part Number: LDC1614EVM

Tool/software: Linux

Hi Ben, Is the software available to re-program the EVM to  test larger L values ? What are the present max values ? We manufacture honey x wound coils  to  be inserted  in ferrite  pot coil forms. They have a very high Q factor. It would be nice if  can put real numbers on these coils.

Greetings, Hans.

  • Hello Hans,
yes it is possible to re-program the EVM firmware. The source code is automatically copied into the program directory of the GUI (typically C:\ti\Sensing Solutions EVM GUI-1.9.1\EVM Firmware\FDC2x14_LDC13xxRevB_LDC16xxRevB_EVM_Firmware_source)

The data output of the LDC corresponds to the sensor frequency. By knowing the reference clock, the sensor capacitor, and register configuration, the data output can be converted to the sensor frequency (datasheet equation 8) or to the sensor inductance (equation 9). This calculation has already been programmed into the GUI (see streaming panel).

There is no limit on sensor L directly, but the sensor is limited by sensor RP and Fsensor (limits for both are in section 6.5).
