LDC1612: Sensor coil inductance and EMC

Part Number: LDC1612

Hi,

1) What are the most important issues related to deciding coil inductance/sensor frequency? Is a higher inductance better than a lower? I see that resolution and skindepth are affected, but are there other parameters that should play a role deciding inductance value and sensor frequency?

2) Do you have any information regarding EMC? Could we expect any EMC emmission ir immunity issues related to inductance sensors?

  • Hello,

the design considerations including sensor frequency and inductance are explained in this apps note: www.ti.com/.../snoa930.pdf

For well laid out PCBs and short trace lengths between the IC and the sensor, I would not expect EMC issues. If you fail any emissions or immunity tests, especially with long wires between sensor and IC, you can populate the appropriate EMC filters which are recommended in the LDC1612 EVM user guide. The EVM also contains footprints for these components.
