LDC0851: Design & development of the proximity switch with LDC0851.

Part Number: LDC0851

Dear Sir,

We have designed the coil for 4 mm sensing with LDC0851. gerber is attached.

As per design guidelines.

  • copper thickness expected is 1 oz i.e. 35 Micrometer.

supplier has 17 micrometer

  • Top to middle thickness expected is 8 mil  is 203 micrometer

Supplier has 17 micrometer

  • Middle 1 to middle 2 thickness  36.6 is 929 micrometer

supplier has  710 micrometer

  • middle to bottom thickness expected is 8mil is 203micrometer

Supplier has 350  micrometer.

Coil shall  work? Since our supplier has these only standard options available.coil proxy.zip

  • Hello,
The default settings can certainly be modified. However, you mention the spacing between Top layer and mid layer 1 is 17 micrometer, but mid layer 2 to bottom is 350 micrometer. This will produce an inductance mismatch in inductance between the LSENSE and LREF channels which is not recommended. The spacing between Top layer and mid layer 1 should be equal to spacing between mid layer 2 and bottom layer. If both are set to 350 micrometer that will be ok. However, ideally this thickness should be decreased as much much as possible to improve distance sensing for stacked coils. Also to further improve the response of the system we would recommend to use a larger spacing between mid layer 1 and mid layer 2. Currently you have 710 micrometer, but we would prefer to see this increased if possible. This mainly affects stacked coils with larger diameters. For a 12 mm coil, the impact will be small, but will still have a slight impact. Refer to this thread for more discussion on stacked coil design guidance: e2e.ti.com/.../2078545
