LDC0851EVM: How to use "Inductive Sensing Design Calculator Tool" for LDC0851EVM

Part Number: LDC0851EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC0851

Hi,

One of our customer is evaluating LDC0851EVM.

As you know LDC0851EVM User's Guide pg6 "Table 2-3. LDC0851EVM Sensor Parameters".
mentions "Inductance at 9.5 MHz" is 8.65 uH.

Meanwhile we trying to use "DC_Tools-ext30.xlsx" sheet
"Spiral_Inductor_Designer" of "Inductive Sensing Design Calculator Tool".
www.ti.com/.../slyc137

In this sheet we select LDC Device to LDC0851 and the parameters
but we are not able to adjust "Total Inductance with no target" to 8.65 uH.

Could you please let us know what parameters should be selected to
get the datasheet value(8.65uH) on excel sheet.

Best Regards,

  • Hello,
The "Spiral_Inductor_Designer" calculates the nominal inductance of a single PCB coil, which is not the configuration of the LDC0851EVM.
The LDC0851EVM uses two spiral coils stacked on top of each other. As a result, there will be a mutual inductance effect between the two coils. The value listed in the user's guide is the measured inductance. You can use our webench tools for a closer approximation in addition to providing guidance on selecting the proper ADJ setting for proximity applications: www.ti.com/LDC0851Webench
