AFE5818EVM: HMC DAQ-GUI error: "Pattern Files\AFE5818\AFE581x_ADC.txt" is missing so the device is not initialized properly.

Part Number: AFE5818EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE5818, LMK04826, AFE5816, AFE5808A

Hi

I have bought a AFE5818EVM and a TSW1400 board. To bring them in operating, I followed the instructions in AFE5818 16-Channel Analog Front End Evaluation Module (EVM Rev. C). After downlading the AFE5818 firmware to TSW1400, HMC-DAQ GUI is automatically opened, but it shows an error "C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\HMC-DAQ GUI\Pattern Files\AFE5818\AFE581x_ADC.txt is missing so the device is not initialized properly. Add the file and press retry or press Continue to switch to simulation mode."

I tried to search on Google for this "AFE581x_ADC.txt" file, however I couldn't find a single information. Beside from this "AFE581x_ADC.txt", there are also others errors showing some other ".txt" files are missing.

Do someone have a solution for these errors ?

Thanks.

  • Hi Bien,

I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble using the AFE5818EVM. Can you please install this version of the HMC-DAQ GUI and this patch before trying again?

    Sincerely,

    Olu

  • Hi Olu,

    Thank for fast reply.

I couldn't access the two links above. The links redirected me to a "Welcome to TI Secure File Sharing by Box", and after clicking "Continue" I got the error message "Server not found".

Btw, I have found that the required files in the error message are located under another folder in the installed directory. Instead of:

    "C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\HMC-DAQ GUI\Pattern Files\AFE5818\AFE581x_ADC.txt"

    they are in

    "C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\HMC-DAQ GUI\Pattern Files\AFE5818\AFE5818vC\AFE581x_ADC.txt"

So I just moved the files out of the "AFE5818vC" folder and the error is gone now. I don't know if it's the right solution.

However as I contineu to follow next instructions, another problem occurs. I had posted the problems but I think it's still under verifying.

    The error is like this:

I cannot initialize the device, and also the GUI looks different from the one in the user manual (e.g no "DUT RESET" button, no option under "Choose Data Format").

    Thanks

  • Hi Bien,

I fixed the links so they should work on your computer now. Please let us know if you are still having problems after doing a fresh install of the linked HMC-DAQ GUI and patch. Please also include the version of HSDC Pro and the OS you are using. Thanks.

    Sincerely,
    Olu
  • Thanks Olu,

The links work now. I downloaded and installed the linked version of HMC-DAQ GUI and patch. However still the same errors as mentioned above occur.

"C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\HMC-DAQ GUI\Pattern Files\AFE5818\AFE581x_ADC.txt" is missing so the divece is not initialized properly.

    I'm using HSDC Pro v4.5.

Btw, we had odered an AFE5818EVM but the board that we received looks different from the one in "USER GUIDE" document http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slou430a/slou430a.pdf.

Could you please help me to verify whether the following board is AFE5818EVM ?

    Picture of the boardwe received:

    Thanks,

    Bien

  • Hi Bien,

It is the right board. And did you uninstall the HMC-DAQ you originally installed before installing v2.8, followed by the patch?

I ask because of one the things that patch is supposed to do is put the afe581x_adc.txt file in the right location after you install HMC-DAQ v2.8. HSDC Pro 4.5 should work just fine.

    Sincerely,

    Olu

  • Hi Olu

I had uninstalled and deleted completely the directory of the old HMC-GUI. Then I installed the above linked HMC-GUI and ran the patch. Still the same errors occur:

    - missing "AFE581x_ADC.txt", "AFE5818_VCA.txt", "LMK04826.txt"

I checked in the new installed directory, the missing files are still located under: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\HMC-DAQ GUI\Pattern Files\AFE5818\AFE5818vC".

Thanks for the verification of the board. But it still confuses me:

    - Why is it different from the one in user guide? (different pin number, pin name, jumper location, etc.)

    - I searched on TI website, for me it looks more like an AFE58JD18EVM than AFE5818EVM.

    - And is there a user guide with correct pin name, jumper loctions, etc.  for the afe board I received ?

    regards,

    Bien

  • Hi Bien,

I just realized you have a Rev. A board--that is a board we stopped using a while back as we are actively supporting the Rev. C at this point. Please send me your address so we can ship you our latest Rev. C board-that should take care of the HMC-DAQ problems you are seeing.

    Sincerely,

    Olu

  • Hi Olu,

Sorry for the late response. My colleague has contacted to TI in Germany for exchanging for the Rev.C board.

    Thanks alot Olu.
    Best regards,
    Bien
  • Hi Olu,

    Today I have received my AFE5818EVM board and it's a Rev.A board.

Whom shall I contact to exchange it for Rev.C board?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Igor,

I'm sorry to hear that. There must be a stock of old boards somehow getting shipped out. Where did you purchase the board from exactly?

Also please provide your information and address so we can identify the best way to go about getting you an updated board. Thanks!

    Sincerely,

    Olu

  • Hi Olu,

I have bought the board directly from store.ti.com shipped to Israel.

Can I provide you my address via some private msg/email?
    What is your email?

    Thanks

  • Hi Olu,

I am contacting from Chonbuk National University, Korea. We have bought several Ultrasound development board. At the first, I have test AFE5808A EVM with TSW1400 EVM by using HSDC Pro application and AFE5808A GUI. There was no problem. Then, I tried to tested AFE5816 EVM with TSW1400 but there was a problem.

I have a problem with HMC-DAQ GUI with AFE5816 EVM. I do following the AFE5816 EVM User guide but the HMC-DAQ GUI does not run on my PC.

    How to solve this problem?

    Thank you,

    Best Regards,
