IWR1443: Coherent and non-coherent processing gain summary

Part Number: IWR1443

What is the processing gain of the radar signal processing chain, including range FFT, Doppler FFT and angle estimation.

  • A typical FMCW radar signal processing chain includes: range FFT, Doppler FFT, coherent or non coherent integration across the antenna, detection and angle of arrival estimation. The range FFT and Doppler FFT are both coherent processing with both signal amplitude and phase information. So the processing gain is 10*log(N) in dB. Integration across antenna can be coherent or non-coherent. Non-coherent integration losses 1~3 dB gain depending on the number of antenna. Coherent integration across the antennas can be implemented by FFT. Detection can be done after coherent or non-coherent integration.
