AWR1642: I could not setup AWR1642EVM through mode.

Part Number: AWR1642
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1443, UNIFLASH, , AWR1243

I'd like to set AWR1642EVM to use under combination of BoostPack+DevPack+TSW1400. I got advice below...

• you will find AWR16xx firmware binary at ‘mmwave_dfp_00.06.01.01\firmware\mss\ar16xx’ which you can use with RadarStudio to send CMD over SPI.
• When you are using RadarStudio with AWR16xx you need download only BSS and MSS binaries in SOP2 mode, no need to download config file.
• AWR16xx firmware provided in this DFP 00.06.01.01 version can be used only in SOP-2 mode.
• With AWR16xx you need to use ‘ar1xxx_bss_rprc.bin’ fw file to download to the device from ‘mmwave_dfp_00.06.01.01\firmware\bss’ path.
• On AWR1443 this version of DFP won’t work, you need to use DFP 00.06.00.05 version.

But I could not flash ‘ar1xxx_bss_rprc.bin’ file to AWR1642EVM as below.

  • Hi,

I have ever tried your similar setup and I only erase the spi flash on AWR1642 EVM. Then it worked well.
  • Hello Takeshi San,
We would recommend you use the latest DFP package from the following link www.ti.com/.../mmwave-dfp
In this installation you will find a folder "rf_eval" in which you will find the Radar studio tool. There is also a "docs" folder which has the Radarstudio_user's guid.pdf .This document has the step by step instructions to connect the radar studio tool to AWR1642 EVM.

Incase of usage with radar studio you need not flash any image to the serial flash. You can download the FW from the Radar studio tool itself. Refer to the "Firmware download " section in the user's guide.

    Regards,
    Vivek
  • Dham-san,

Thank you for your information. This is MMWAVE_DFP  00_07_00_04 and it said that this supported device AWR1243.

Are you really sure that it work with AR1642EVM? Just I'd like to make sure.

  • Hello Takeshi san,

The radar studio can be used for AWR1642 as well, for RF evaluation. You will find an "rf_eval/rf_eval_firmware" folder where you will find the firmware to be used for AWR1642.

    Regards,

    Vivek

  • ../rf_eval/rf_eval_firmware/radarss/xwr16xx_radarss_rprc.bin didn't work too as below.

  • Hello Takeshi San,
For radar studio usage you need not flash the binaries to the serial flash. They would be loaded directly from the Radar studio tool. In section 5.1.3 of the Radar studio user's guide you can find these details.
Also note that you need to set the SOP 2 from radar studio so that the binary from the serial flash does not get loaded to the device.

    Regards,
    Dham
  • Hello Takeshi San,
Did the explanation and user guide help you?

    Regards,
    Vivek
  • Dham-san,

Thank you for your support. As you mentioned, I could execute whole through mode with latest Radar Studio (rev. 1.7.4). I still need to check that all function work in the mode. But I think we can close the thread.
