AWR1243BOOST: Boost Pack Antenna Design

Part Number: AWR1243BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1443, IWR1642

Comment:  Excellent product line.

Question: Do you have a reference for the antenna design?

  • Hi Jeffrey,

There are many hints in antenna design, especially the UWB and mmWave frequency antenna, this type of antenna known by the following names:
    "series-fed patch array antenna"
There are many parameters that include antenna design and control of certain conditions is not easy:
    Gain/VSWR/Impedance/BandWidth and … .
One of the main sources of antenna design is:
Title: Antenna Theory: Analysis and Design
    Author(s): Constantine A. Balanis

  • Hi Jeffrey,

We are planning on releasing an antenna design portfolio consisting of a few different planar antenna designs based on the IWR1443 and IWR1642 BoosterPack RF stackup, BGA layout and GCPW transmission-line but with different antenna attached. The portfolio will consist of CAD models, dimensions and simulated gain patterns. Ideally we would like to validate (actually measure) many different designs, but these will likely be simulated designs only.

However, best resource I am aware of right now is the one Amin quoted above. Balanis' text on the subject is probably the definitive reference. Highly recommended if you are going to get into designing antenna for any application.

That's all I can do at the moment, but please checkout this forum and especially the collateral sticky post for updates https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensor/mmwave_sensors/f/1023/t/595745

    Thank you,

    Randy
