PGA450-Q1: Sensing Range

Part Number: PGA450-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PGA460, TDC1000

Hi,

May I know what is the minimum sensing range for PGA450? Can it be go as low as 0.1m? I would like to use this to do fuel /water sensing in a metal tank from 0.1m to 1.2m. Is it possible?

Do you have any better recommendation for my application?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks and best regards,
KH

  • Hi Kum Hoo Lee,

I recommend that you consider the PGA460, the latest generation ultrasonic sensor signal conditioner.
If you are measuring the height of the liquid in the tank from the top-down (ultrasonic echo transmitted through air), then the PGPA460 is able to detect down to <10cm when a high frequency transducer (180-480kHz) is selected, or a bi-static transducer configuration (separate transducers for transmit and receive).

Examples of proven high-frequency transducer vendors include Steminc (www.steminc.com/.../air-transducers) and Massa (https://www.massa.com/).

If you want to use a single low frequency transducer (30-80kHz), then the transducer will need to be negatively offset or recessed from the ceiling of the tank to create enough margin to detect 10cm.

If you want to measure the height of the liquid through the liquid, I recommend that you consider the TDC1000, which is more compatible with liquid-ultrasonic transducer frequencies.
