TDC1000-TDC7200EVM: TDC7200EVM - Connect Failed! Check Hardware

Part Number: TDC1000-TDC7200EVM

I am unable to connect my GUI to the EVM, I have listed out my steps for attempting to read the EVM.  I have read through the TDC7200 manual, read through many threads, and watched you tube videos to no avail.  Would someone please help me connect my EVM to the GUI so I can begin utilizing the EVM for testing?

I open GUI.

Hold down the SW button on the EVM, plug in the EVM to the computer.

The bottom of the EVM shows Connect Failed! Check Hardware.

My device manager shows two HIDs, I check for the latest installed drivers and windows tells me the latest drivers have been installed.

I update the MSP430 firmware to TDC720xEVM-Firmware-v2.07, the download shows Done! and no device connected per the installation manual.

An amber light illuminates on the EVM and the HIDs disappear from the Device Manager and I receive the connect failed.

Please help.

  • Hello Dustin,

The procedure you describe is what is needed to update the firmware. To simply connect to the GUI, start with the GUI closed, plug in the board, then open the GUI. It should connect automatically on GUI startup.

Thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated.  I started with the GUI closed, plugged in the board and immediately an amber light D3 illuminated.  I opened the GUI and an error box appeared stating "Connect Failed! Check the COM Port Number"

Any ideas on why this error code is displayed?

  • Hi Dustin,

I have had this same issue before. I find that unplugging and plugging the board back into the computer a few times sometimes works. Otherwise, on the first tab labeled 'Setup' in the GUI, there is a box labeled 'Serial Port'. If you plug in the board and select the drop down menu, there are different COM ports you could try connecting to. You can also select refresh and more may pop up to try to connect to.

    Hope that helps.

I attempted the above and it did not help.  I have noticed that no Com port numbers are available and an error window displays Connect Failed! Check the COM port number.  I plug in the board, open the GUI, and then the amber light immediately illuminates and the above mentioned error code displays.

Should I have COM port numbers available?
