AFE5818: Noise Floor and Receiver Sensitivity of AFE5818

Part Number: AFE5818

Hi,

Q1.How to calculate the Noise Floor of AFE5818, if I am using it for an ultrasound scanner prototyping?

Q2.What is the maximum acceptable noise floor level of AFE5818? Is it (Maximun_ADC_input) / Resolution = 2 / 2power(14) = 122.07 mico-Volt?

Q3. How to estimate the Receiver Sensitivity of AFE5818, if I am using it for an ultrasound scanner prototyping?

Thanks and Regards

  • Hi Deepak,

The AFE5818 has a maximum LNA gain of 24dB, maximum PGA gain of 30dB and min VCAT attenuation of 0dB. i.e. max gain of 54dB.
It also has minimum LNA gain of 12dB, minimum PGA gain of 24dB and maximum attenuation of 40dB. i.e. min gain of -4dB.

There are also multiple noise plots from Figure 16 to 39. The AFE5818 is an analog front-end with an integrated ADC--as far as the noise doesn't saturate the IC, there is no noise requirement for the device. Those usually come from the end system's needs.

    Sincerely,
    Olu
