substrate selection of AWR1642 for 77GHz Radar

hi team,

The substrate material of AWR1642 is used rogers RO4835 LoPro.
Could you explain why AWR1642 selects the material?
And can you suggest another substrate material of low cost for 77GHz radar application?

Hello Neko,
RO4835Lo pro is actually a lower cost material suitable for 80Ghz usage. Other materials for this frequency like the RO3003 are slightly better since they have a lower insertion loss, but are more expensive. There are also other vendors other than Rogers building 80Ghz PCB material, like Isola, but we have not evaluated their cost and performance.

Thank you for the prompt reply.
In other words, at first, the material is only focus on RO4835Lo pro and RO3003 for AWR1642, so in the end, the substrate selected RO4835Lo pro which is able to cost and performance better than RO3003, right?

Hello Neko,
RO4835LoPro is cheaper than RO3003 in cost.
RO3003 has better RF performance than RO4835LoPro due to lower transmission loss.

So its a trade off between cost and performance.
