AWR1443: AWR1443BOOST Board power line(5v) noise ?

Part Number: AWR1443

I saw main power line drop(0.2v) and acoustic noise at the PMIC(LP87524)?

Can you explain the this noise and solution ?

  • Hello Jake,
The drop on the power line input would depend on the input power cable length , since that would decide the IR drop. But 0.2V drop in input voltage should not cause an issue to the output voltage regulation since the LP87524 can handle a wide input voltage. Is your concern with performance degradation due to this voltage dips or is it some other reason?

  • Thanks for your answer.

But My question seems to be wrong.

You can see the Vin(5v) power transition as below image.

I think that voltage drop is happened when radar' chirp transmitting.

At this point, hearing bee noise(sound) can be heard on the inductor(pmic).

I am concerned about the bad effects of Radar performance.

  • Hello Jake,
You are right that this dip is mostly due to the current drawn during chirping. This is the IR drop (current * series resistance of the cable). Using a shorter cable should reduce that dip. But the 400mV dip you see should not be a big concern for the radar performance.
Regarding the noise you are hearing, could it be due to the power plug not making proper contact in the power jack and there is sparking happening in the power jack? Can you try a different power supply?
