IWR1642BOOST: Viewing Raw object data on PC

Hi all

I have been using the IWR1642boost and I was wondering if there's a way to dump the object data coming in over the USB onto the PC while running the mmWave demo. For example, I would like to view the contents of the "MMWDEMO_OUTPUT_MSG_DETECTED_POINTS" structure on the PC.

Hello,

The captured data is sent out via the UART "XDS110 Class Auxiliary Data port" as you are probably aware. When the mmWave Demo Visualizer is running, it captures the data from this port and displays it. You would need to write a Windows/DOS program to capture the data instead of the Demo Visualizer.

If you double click on C:/ti/mmwave_sdk_01_00_00_05/packages/ti/demo/xwr16xx/mmw/docs/doxygen/html/index.html and scroll down to "Output information sent to host", you can see the structures that are output to the port.

I too am in the process of doing this, and although its not that large of a task, it's a bit annoyingly hidden how to do this. An option to export the data from the demo visualizer would help tremendously when performing an initial review of the product. It would be great if you considered adding the functionality in the future.

Hey Vivek,

Can we by when do you expect the feature to be available to us ? It will be really useful the read the data from USB just like how the Visualizer does it.

In the meantime, here are some tips for modifying the Visualizer code:

There are different ways to take advantage of the parsing code in Visualizer (mentioned in the order of most simple to advanced):

The fastest way is to hit F12 on the browser, go to sources tab and then go to mmWave.js in the list of files. In this file you can look for the process1() function.
To browse the code on your desktop, download the desktop version of the App from the gallery and then navigate to <users>\guicomposer\runtime\gcruntime.v4\mmWave_Demo_Visualizer\app directory.
Go to the gallery, locate mmWave Demo Visualizer and click on to import the project in your workspace. Now you can customize the GUI as desired and/or change the backend javascript code as per your needs. Some helpful links:

Hello Amol,
If you just want to just save the object data coming over the UART you can send the configuration from the visualizer and then disconnect it. Then connect tera term to the data UART port and all the data coming over the UART port can be saved to a file from the tera term window.
