    Hello David,

    Yes, NPN or PNP transistors can be used. Your sensor configuration and schematics look good. Here are two minor notes:

    1. It may be possible to use higher value I2C pull-up to reduce power consumption.
    2. Layout recommendations: move C49 as close as possible to D2. Keep the traces between D2 and VT1 short. If noisy traces run close to the D2-VT1 traces, shield the D2-VT1 traces by moving D2-VT1 to an inner layer and adding GND traces on either side of the trace pair, as well as on the layers above and below.
