AWR1443BOOST: Product Suggestion

Part Number: AWR1443BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1443,

Hello all,

A professor ask,

"We would like to start a Radar project for the high frequency labor students. The first aim of the project is to measure distance, angle and speed for short distances. The radar platform (sensor Power supply Processor) will be install in a small car and should be control trough WLAN. To this issue, I have following questions:

1) I found radar sensor AWR1443 for this application. Can you recommend this evaluation board?? Regarding the range of distance, is it possible to set the system for a measurement range between 4cmm bis 16m??
2) For the short distance application does it need an additional Processor?? For which application of the AWR1443 it is necessary an additional processor?
3) As I read at the data sheet the power consumption is 2,5 A (at 5V).  Could you recommend a battery power supply??
4) Could you recommend a system (Demo board) in order to control the sensor trough WLAN?

Could anyone help me this please?

Thank you in advance.

  • Hello Kaustubh,
    Please find my reply below:
    1) AWR1443BOOST is a right evaluation board for this . The details of this EVM and ordering links are available at the following page: www.ti.com/.../awr1443boost
The Range can be limited to 16m in the user application or in hardware indirectly by setting the appropriate sampling rate and FMCW slope appropriately.

    2) If the requirement is just basic object detection (range, velocity, angle) then the single AWR1443 would suffice for short range. If the user code involves lot more algorithms and cannot fit into the AWR1443 memory then an external processor may be required.

    3) There are 5V battery packs available that can provide 2.5A current. These can be used to power the EVM.

    4) For incorporate WLAN control with the radar device the TI simpleLink device CC3220 LaunchPad can be used , this directly interfaces with the AWR1443BOOST EVM.

    Regards,
    Vivek
