FDC2114: FDC2114 about the sampling frequency set

Part Number: FDC2114
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC2214

Hi team,

The customer is using FDC2114 with MSP430 processor. He uses the EVM GUI Tool.

Now he needs to set a higher  sampling frequency for his application, then the higher sampling frequency can be displayed on GUI.

How to set the higher sampling frequency? Does he need to modify the registers?

Best Wishes,

  • Hi Mickey,

For the Sensing Solutions EVM GUI on the Data Streaming page click “Show Graph Configuration” and you can set the sample rate directly. If you want to match what the EVM is producing, then just select “EVM Output Rate”

Let us know if there is anything else.

    Regards,

    Varn

  • Hi Varn,

Thanks for your reply. The customer set the sample rate through clicking “Show Graph Configuration”, but if the sample rate be set too quick,

then many sampling points will coincide in a straight line, the customer cannot see the rise  point or fall point that he needs.

Please check the image in the attachment.

For this quick sample rate question, what is the reason? Is the sample rate issue of FDC2214 or the sample rate issue of the MCU?

Can the customer program to achieve the results that he needs?

  • Hi Varn,

Would you please reply to me? The customer is waiting for my reply.

  • Hi Mickey,

Sorry for overlooking your post. Yes, there are multiple ways you can increase the sampling rate. If you go to the configurations page on the GUI you will see Reference Count and Settle Count settings both of which control the sampling rate. How many channels does your customer need?

Just keep in mind, the reference count and settle count settings also affect the resolution and accuracy of the measurement. This App Note talks about reference count and settle count in terms of L measurement but the same applies to the FDC parts for C measurements. In the screenshot you are looking at the Cap value, I'd recommend tuning the setup by looking at the Raw Code instead especially if you are using the FDC2114 instead of the FDC2214.

If you need more information or help we can have a call to get your setup running.

    Regards,

    Varn.

  • Hi Varn,

Thanks for your support. I will confirm with the customer. Then I will feedback you.
