My customer is considering TDC1000 for LIDAR AFE and has a question.

Could you please advise?

The TDC1000 is not well suited as an AFE for LIDAR. It is designed to send and receive ultrasonic signals with a piezoelectric ultrasonic transducers. However, the TDC7200 is a time measurement device that is designed with LIDAR in mind. There is a TI design using the TDC7200 in a LIDAR application with a discrete AFE: TIDA-00663 ( www.ti.com/.../TIDA-00663 )

The short answer is that the minimum time of flight given the maximum clock frequency is 750ns. With light this equates to a one way distance of about 112 meters.
