AWR1243BOOST: hardware trigger

Part Number: AWR1243BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1443

Hi,

I'm trying to perform hardware triggering on AWR1243BOOST (+DEVPACK+TSW1400). I have soldered in R165, which connects J6 pin 9 to SYNC_IN signal and connected a wire to J6 pin 9.

First, I test my Radar Studio setup by using the default settings with software trigger and everything works (I get data at HSDCPro).

Next, I repeat the same Radar Studio setup, except for choosing "HardwareTrigger" on "SensorConfig" tab, "Frame->TriggerSelect" drop-down list. Then I press "SetUp TSW1400", "TSW1400 ARM". During the next two seconds I give a pulse on J6 pin 9 (SYNC_IN). No data arrives until a 10 seconds timeout.

What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this?

Thanks.

  • Hello,
Vivek will answer more about the Radar-Studio controls. I have not done your test.

As you have connected R165, we should have a connection between J6 pin9 and SYNC_IN N10.

    a) Please use the software trigger, and an oscilloscope, on J6 pin 18, this should be the SYNC_OUT signal P11. We are interested in the voltage level and pulse width of the signal.

    b) Using your external hardware trigger, you want to replicate the voltage level, and pulse width of (a), please also make sure to have a common GND reference between your test pulse, and the AWR12 EVM.

    c) As you know, several of the signals can have Pin Multilplexed values (Vivek will verify this for you) . In the AWR1443 datasheet, page 17, Pin N10, is the SYNC_IN pin, it can be pin multiplexed using register 0xEA6c, it should have a value of 1 to connect SYNC_IN to the Radar Sensor

    d) as stated above, I have not run this Radar Studio configuration with external Sync Input before, I will let Vivek comment.

  • Hello ,
The sequence you are following is correct, just one addition. After you do the frame config with hardware trigger selected you need to click on "tigger frame" once for the device to set all the pin configurations. After that you can do setup TSW1400 and ARM TSW and provide a SYNC_IN pulse.
To start of with it would be good to make sure the frames are being continuously sent out (either by setting infinite number of frames or set a finite number and keep providing SYNC_IN pulses after the frame transmission in complete).

  • Hello,
Could you let us know if the above information helped resolve the issue?
