AWR1642: For use backing an automobile, is it possible to alternate the chirp/frame?

Part Number: AWR1642

Hi All,

My question involves alternating the AWR1642 profiles in real time to be able to sense a small child within 3-5 meters very sensitively while also sensing larger objects at greater distances.

So I guess you would have 2 sensor configurations, alternating.

In other words, what is the minimum turnaround time for changing configurations like this - - can it be as small as 250mSec?  Sense to detect human presence 3-5M, then alternate, etc.?

One example is backing and sensing a human vs. a curb or loading dock.  You need to be aware of the curb or loading dock, but if you sense a human deploy the brake.

I am still studying the documentation to understand the relationship between Chirps, Frames, and Profiles.

  • Hello John,
This can be easily achieved with the TI radar devices without the software having the "switch" the configuration dynamically. We allow something called "Advaned frame configuration" (refer to the app note :www.ti.com/.../swra553) where you can programme one sub frame with a particular profile suitable for a human for eg. and another sub frame to detect a car at a distance. The sensor can be configured to first send the first sub frame and then the second sub frame and this is totally hardware controlled and hence the gap between the subframes can be as low as 100usec.

    Regards,

  • VIvek,

Thank you so much.  I guess you would know, since you wrote SWRA553 yourself!

Yes, this is exactly what I needed,

    Again, thank you
