AWR1642: Call sequence of rlRfDynamicPowerSave to save power

Hi,

I am helping my customer to save the power consumption. There is one API rlRfDynamicPowerSave in rl_sensor.c, we want to call it to enable dynamic power save mode, would u pls help confirm where should it be called, such as before or after rlRfInit?

Hello Andy,

Power saving for Rx LNA, Tx PA etc. are enabled by default in radarSS FW. This API is used to switch it off if required. You can call this API before frame start (rlSensorStart).

Do BU have test report on about how much power can be saved using the rlRfDynamicPowerSave? It can be as a reference for customer. Thanks.

Hello Andy,
Basically he dynamic power save option turns off the TX and RX blocks inbetween the chirps. So the power saving would depend on the idle times used. But , like Jiten mentioned this is enabled by default. Is there any specific reason you might want to disable it to know how much extra current we would consume?

Vivek,
It is because customer feedback the case temperature is higher than expectation, we want to decrease the power. If the dynamic power saving feature is enabled by default then there is no need to call the rlRfDynamicPowerSave again.

Hello Andy,
They could increase the inter frame time to reduce the duty cycle. This would reduce the average current. If that's acceptable to them it could be an option.
