AWR1243: No of TX

Part Number: AWR1243

Hi,

From the datasheet, it is clear that AWR1243 has 3 TX. The data sheet features says : "Three Transmit Channels (Two Can be Used Simultaneously)" . What exactly does it mean.

1. Can I use the 3 TX in time multiplexed format? or only 2 TX can be used for one sensor? (as the data sheet mentions 'Simultaneously')

2. Why there is a limitation of 2 TX only? If I try to use 3 TX, is there a hardware override to stop this? what effects on the board/pcb/data/noise etc should i expect, if I use 3 TX (either at the same time by frequency multiplexed or alternatively by time multiplexed).

3. If I can use only 2 TX in any way, does the option of 3 TX is present only for changing configuration from azimuth and/or elevation, which is achieved in AWR1243BOOST antenna placement

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello Santhana,
By 2 TX simultaneously we mean using 2TX at the same time in a single chirp. In a time multiplexed mode you can use all 3 TX.
The 3TX antennas could be used in different ways based on the system requirement. For example they can be used to improve the angle resolution in the azimuth plan only. Or they can be used to get some better resolution in the elevation plan (like done in the AWR1243BOOST).

    Regards,
