IWR1642BOOST: What's the purpose of the parasitic array antennas?

Hello,

What's the purpose of the parasitic array antennas marked by purple circles, which are connected to ground?

  • Hello,
The purple circles, diodes, are part of Built in Test / calibration / factory testing.
They are not used during operational chip cycles.

  • Hello David,
I am not sure if the image come through in your post , I am not able to see that. But if you are referring to the two antennas on both sides of the 4 receiver chain antennas , these are kept to reduce the mismatch between the 4 receive antennas. Since the center two antennas have copper on the sides while the other two have copper on only one of the side this causes slight gain/ phase mismatch and we have attempted to reduce it by putting these dummy copper elements. These are not mandatory to have.

Got it, thank you very much!
