AWR1642BOOST: Radar Studio working with AWR1642BOOST +mmWaveDevpack

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642, AWR1243, AWR1443

Hi,

I am using AWR1642BOOST along with mmWaveDEVPACK board. I try to connect it to the radar studio tool installed through DFP 0.7 version.

I am not able to run the radar studio application properly. In my device manager, I am seeing the 4 ports from DevPack as USB ports only, even after installing the ftdi drivers as mentioned in the user manual. I tried the usual tricks of restarting, on/off board, reinstalling, but the com ports numbers are not visible in the device manger. It shows as USB serial port only.

1.Is there anything else I can try?

2. There is a Note in user manual saying that I have to connect AWR1243 + Devpack as shown in figure. Does this mean, that I can use the radar studio tool only with AWR1243 and not with AWR1642?

PS: I don't have the TSW1400 board for data capture.

Thanks in advance,

Santhana Raj

  • Hello Santhana,

Did you mean that FTDI drivers are installed for the DEVPACK but you still do not see the correct port names that are expects as per devpack User's guide?
Have you tried installing the Firmware on to Devpack?

Also the on board flash should be empty when you try it with devpack + radar studio combination.

    Thank you,
    Vaibhav
  • Dear Vaibhav,

I’m trying mm Wave Sensor Raw Data Capture Using the TSW1400 Board. Referring to guide, the required HW is AWR1443. But I have AWR1642 sensor. Can I still capture raw data?

I performed all steps described in guide, but can’t see in com port devices, why? How can I solve it?

    Thanks,

    Zalman

  • Hi,

What do you mean by  "Installing the firmware on to Devpack" ?? I have no idea which firmware you are talking about. Can you detail?

The AWR1642 board's flash is not empty as  of now. I suppose you mean this AWR1642 flash only to be empty.  I will try to erase it, try again and then get back to you.

    Thanks for the help.

  • Hello Zalman,

Please open a new thread to discuss the issue you are facing .

    Thanks,
    Raghu

  • Santhana,

If you have updated the emulation pack for the XDS110 as mentioned in the user guide , please follow below procedure.

    Xdsdfu.exe -b boot_loader.bin

    Xdsdfu.exe -f firmware.bin

After these steps you should see the Applicatio/UART port and the Data port of the AWR1642BOOST.

    Regards,
    Raghu
  • Santhana,
Can you please also send the screenshot ?

    -Raghu
  • Hi Raghu,

I reinstalled the dfp, the update of the drivers and all. The problem is not there. The device manager now shows the com port number and all.

But still I am not able to run the Radar studio tool. When I open or when I run the Startup.lua file, I get the following error at the end:

    [14:59:51]  &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
    [14:59:51]  ***Script FAILED!***
    [14:59:51]  &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Can you help? Did I miss any steps that has to be done?

Let me know If I should start a new thread for  this?

    Thanks in advance,

    Santhana Raj

  • Hi Santhana,

You do not need to open the Startup.lua , this is internally called and used by the RadarStudio.exe.

You just need to open "Radar Studio.exe" that is present in "$mmwave-dfp-install\rf_eval\radarstudio\RunTime\Radar Studio.exe" . This will open the Radar Studio Gui.

Please also refer to "RadarStudio_User's_Guide.pdf" in the "$mmwave-dfp-install\rf_eval\docs" on using the Radar Studio .

Please let me know if you have further issues.

    BR,
    Raghu
  • Hi Raghu,

I am running the radar studio exe file from the location you mentioned.

And as per the user guide, I have already replaces the .rbf and .ini files as mentioned in section 2.1.

Still, I am getting the same error  as mentioned before.

In the Radar Studio user manual, on page 6, it mentions to install HSDC pro while having the TSW1400 connected through USB. As I have mentioned before, I don't have TSW1400 yet. Is all my problems because of this??

Is there any work around for this issue, without having TSW1400?

Thanks again and in advance for the help.

    Santhana Raj

  • Hi Santhana,
There is no dependency of the TSW1400 for Radar Studio to work.

We have only seen RadarStudio not working in case the FTDI drivers are not installed. Otherwise we have not seen this issue.

    Are you using Windows7 or Windows10 ?

    -Raghu
  • Windows 10 Pro 64bit.

And another thing I noticed was I have the full version of Matlab 2017a installed. But not the Matlab 8.5(2015) mentioned for radar studio, in my PC. Though I wont be doing any post processing, as I cant collect data without TSW1400, I dint took much notice of this. Can this be the cause of my problem??
  • Hello Santhana,
You do need to install matlab runtime engine 8.5 (32 bit version) for radar studio.

    Regards,
    Vivek
  • Thank You Vivek & Raghu. The issue is resolved after I installed Matlab 8.5 runtime.

I took for granted that a higher version of Matlab would work!! My mistake.

Sorry for taking your time and thanks for your help.
