AWR1443BOOST: Antenna Calibration Data

Part Number: AWR1443BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642BOOST, MMWAVE-SDK

Hello!

Usually, MIMO radars need "antenna calibration data",

because magnitudes and phase rotations of all the antenna feed are not equal.

For radar 2D imaging use, they must be corrected exactly.

Where does TI open "antenna calibration data" for AWR1443Boost ?

Sorry, I couldn't find them.

  • Hello user4916662

You are correct that MIMO radars usually need to do antenna calibration. However, the AWR1443BOOST and the AWR1642BOOST were designed to be well matched, and not need calibration. Also, the device performs calibration so that the RX, and Tx are well matched at the device output.

What that means is that we see fairly good performance without any calibration being done, so no calibration is done.

    Regards,

    Anil

  • Thank you for your clear answer.

On this occasion, I'd like to understand further.

Where can I learn what kind of calibrations this device automatically execute ?

I have read this chip automatically calibrate IQ balance.

You say TX Pouts and RX Pouts are calibrated.

    What else exactly ?

  • Key calibrations are : Rx Gain, Tx Output power and baseband calibrations (I-Q mismatch). Please refer to "mmwave_radarss_release_notes.pdf" in the MMWAVE-SDK installation.
