TMP302: TMP302 power dissipation

Hi

Below is my questions about TMP302.

1. TMP302 maximum output current is 10mA, in which conditions?  

2. I want to drive TMP302 with VRTC, VRTC maximum output capacity is 2mA, when system is shutdown, consume 0.1mA, can 1.9mA meet TMP302 operating normal?         

3. Does TMP302 have power dissipation only when it trigger the temperature point, and what is the maximum power consumption? In normal conditions, is there only 15uA power consumption?

    Hi Jerry,

    The maximum output current 10mA specified in the Abs Max is come from the model and determine by the designer. It doesn't have any condition specified in the specs. The Abs Max indicated that you can use in any condition as long as you are not violate the specs by exceeding the 10mA. When you are saying driving the TMP302, are you referring to the input pin? According to the datasheet, in order to minimize the lower power consumption you need to a pull-up resistor on the output pin since it is an open drain output.

    To answer your questions:

    The maximum quiescent current is 15uA so 1.9mA is plenty to power to the device assuming the supply voltage is within spec.

    Please refer to the Figure 2.  The quiescent current is the normal power consumption when the device is powered.  In normal conditions, this current will be under 15uA.

    To reach the temperature trigger point, measure the VS pin, the working current is about 500uA, quiescent current is 40uA, Can you help explain?

    In addition, both the working current and the quiescent current have jitter. It's quite strange. We tested it with power monitor.

    Jerry,

    Do you have a schematic of your test setup? Does your supply current measurement includes the pull-up resistor current? Have you tried measuring the current with the OUT/ pin disconnected from the system? The 15uA is only for the quiescent current of the device's Vs pin. What is the accuracy of your instrument? Can you do a sanity check on a known current source to make sure the noise jitter is not from the instrument? This may be a common mode noise in your system.

    I would suggest measure a known 10-15uA current source and use that as your reference.
