TD1000_GASEVM No signal change

Problem: No signal change.

I need to measure the fuel level in an oil tank from the top, I'm trying to use the TDC1000-BSTEVM.

Sensor housing construction:

1: Both the transmitter and receiver are mounted on a 0.04" thick disk of aluminum with loctite super glue.

2: The disk is attached to a PVC threaded coupler with Silicon to provide vibration dampening.

3:The coupler is then set into a hole in the top of a five gallon bucket.

when I run the GUI I see no change in the TOF measurement when I add water, when I look at the signals with the scope I see the start pulse and stop pulse and the signal to the comp in, but when I add water I see no change at all. I'm using the default settings. I'v made sure the HV is turned on for TX1.

The way I have the sensors mounted should be no different than if mounted directly to the top of the tank. Is it the glue, the settings.

I also tried the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM, I mounted the sensor that came with the eval board to the bottom of a 44oZ wawa cup, same results no signal change as I add water.

At this point I'm not looking for accuracy, just getting the thing to register a change  would be helpful.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

  • Hi David,

Can you please provide images of your scope shots?

  • Yibo, thanks for the response.

    This is strange,

I have two EVM boards, the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM and the TDC1000-GASEVM. The TDC1000-TDC7200EVM will just lock up for no reason and I have to disconnect it and shut down the GUI and restart it and then it was hit or miss at best but for the short time it worked I did get a reading.( me thinks there's a cockroach somewhere in TI software or GUI, FW v2.01)

On to my main problem as you can see from my scope shots I am getting signals (I was also getting the same kind of signals with the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM). If I remove the receiving sensor (J2) I lose the signal which I expected. I get the same readings with or without the sensor holder  mounted to the tank.

I need to see some results before I do a board layup.

I apologize for the way the pictures came out
