TMP116: GND and Thermal Pad Connection?

The TMP116 datasheet states that the thermal pad can be connected to GND or left floating. Is this pad connected to ground internally in the component or is it just a thermal connection there?

Hi Jake,

Normally, the die's subtrate is connected to a small resistor in series to the DAP. We verified this during our validation; unfortunately, this is not true. So, it is completely isolated. However, you can connect the thermal pad to a plane via GND for a better thermal response. Please refer this to this apps note for layout detail.
