FDC2214: Whether the chip can be used for induction sensing solutions

Dears,

The customer want to use FDC2214 to designing both capacitive and inductive sensors. But I don't know whether the chip can be used for induction sensing solutions? What is the main difference between LDC1614 and FDC2214? Both those two chips measure the sensor frequency, the digitized output is proportional to the ratio of fSENSOR/fREF.

Hi Ricardo,

These two ICs are based on the same core and work in very similar ways. You can use either one for both inductive and capacitive applications.

Hi Yibo,

What puzzled me is if I use FDC2214 for inductive application, does it mean that I need use the calculation formula show off in datasheet of LDC1614?

Do we have some cases about use a single LDC or FDC for both inductive and capacitive application?

Hi Ricardo,

That is the correct formula for calculating inductance.

The fundamental formula is the same: f = 1/(2*pi*sqrt(LC))

The FDC2214 or LDC1614 measures the frequency of oscillation, which changes when either L or C changes.
