AWR1642BOOST: connection to TSW1400 and Radar studio 1.7.4.0

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1443, UNIFLASH, AWR1642, AWR1443BOOST, MMWAVE-DFP

Hi,

I am trying to connect Radar studio to my hardware set (AWR1642BOOST +DevPack+TSW1400). I am able to program the TSW1400 through HSDC pro. I am not able to proceed beyond the RS232 connection part in the sequence of steps to be done to collect data.

The major problem I face is all help documentation are for AWR1443 and Radar studio 1.6.2.0. I am using 1.7.4.0.

I have properly installed the device drivers for USB ports. The device manager screenshot is as below.

The Radar studio connection tab screenshot is as below:

In this page, when I click on Connect button in RS232 operations, Nothing happens. There is no place where i can chk rs232 connection status as it is shown in 1.6.2.0 version of radar studio. In the output window, I get the following errors when I click connect button for RS232.

and

I though May be the RS232 connection is not so important and tried to do the SPI connect and load the BSS and MSS firmware. The SPI connect button changes to SPI disconnect when I click on it. But when I click on load button, the Radar studio crashes. I get the following popup for crashing.

The memory dump file and log file for this crash report is also attached.

Can anyone help me on this, So I can use the TSW to collect radar data?

Thanks & Regards,

Santhana Raj

  • Hello Santhana,

It looks like you your SOP mode settings are not successful. I see error in the SOP mode settings .

Did you see this problem all the time ?

    -Raghu

  • Hi Raghu,

This is the error that I get every time.

I would also like to add that, I erased the board flash using Uniflash and not command prompt as mentioned. And when I connect the board to TSW1400, the SOP2 jumper is removed. I hope this is okie.

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

The Capture demo says the I can use the bin file of demo to transfer data through LVDS, which basically uses TSW1400 on,ly.

But radar studio documentation says, to keep the AWR1642 flash empty. These two instructions are contradictory. Can anyone throw light on this??

I am also suspecting that the hardware is faulty. Can anyone give me any firmware or tests files to confirm this?? Or should I ask this in High speed data convertors forum??

I am really stuck here with this hardware. ANy help to make this work would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Santhana Raj

  • Santhana,
Sorry for the delayed reply on the post.

For using the AWR1642 + TSW1400EVM, please confirm the following:
    1. Have you done any ECO's on this EVM to work with CAN interface? If CAN ECO's are done then the SPI will not work . Revert back the CAN ECO's and then work with RadarStudio.

    2. Have you followed the steps mentioned in the "5. If you are working with XWR1642 device" in "RadarStudio_User's_Guide.pdf" ?

    3. Send me the pic of your setup.

    BR,
    Raghu
  • Hi Raghu,

Answers to your questions as below:

    1. I dont understand what you mean by CAN ECO on the EVM. But since you mentioned it and I have tried to communicate over CAN on this, I changed to another EVM. With the new EVM also, Same problem of error when I click RS232 connect and crashes when I try to load the firmware.

    2. Yes I have. I did it again now to be completely sure.

    3. Attaching the front and back pics.

    Thanks for the help.

  • Hi,

I would like to add that, I recently got an AWR1443BOOST device. I am not getting this same problem when I connected this AWR1443 to TSW1400. Though I had to load xwr12xx firmware in TSW1400. I was able to connect over SPI and load the BSS and MSS for AWR1443.

Still I had some problems with communicating, But I think I will post that as a separate query in forum. I want to mention this here, since I believe this might help to debug my issue with AWR1642+TSW1400.

    Thanks in advance,

  • Santhana,

Looking at all the RadarStudio snapshot and also your setup it is clear that you are using mix and match of the older Radar Studio with newer firmware etc.

Below is the snapshot of the RadarStudio v1.7.4.0 in the latest MMWAVE-DFP which shows the FTDI, RS232, SPI connectivity status. Your snapshots of the RadarStudio do not show it indicating that you are not using the latest tools in the MMWAVE-DFP version "00.07.00.04".

Please download the MMWAVE-DFP and use the latest RadarStudio in that DFP .

    Thanks,

    Raghu

  • HI Raghu,
Sorry for the late response. I was not able to verify your advice properly before. Hence the delay.
I had the recent version of DFP. But again when I re-installed the package. I got an upgrade and Not this issue is resolved.

But still I am facing some problem with SPI connectivity and configurations, WHihc I will post as a separate question/blog.

Thank you very much for the help on this.
    Thanks,
