AWR1243BOOST: How to generate single tone frequency?

Expert 2985 points
Part Number: AWR1243BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1243,

Hi all,

I have AWR1243 and MMWAVE-DEVPACK. And connect them to Radar Studio.

I set SOP mode as Development mode and all the FDTI, RS232 and SPI is connected well.

Then I power up the RF.

And then in the SensorConfig Tab, I set the Start freq as 77GHz and slope as 0 to generate 77GHz signal tone. Then I click set.

Does this mean the AWR1243BOOST is running and generating 77GHz signal tone?

Is this some LED indication shows that the AWR1243's transmitters are just working, which I mean it's sending RF signal?

Thanks!

  • Hello Feng,

Your AWR1243 should be generating that 77 GHz Signal. There is no LED indication of this at this time.

Let us know if you have any more questions or if you need help going through Radar Studio.

    Cheers,

  • Hello,

In the Radar Studio setup, the Synthesizer ramp rate is set in Mhz/us.  There is a starting frequency.   So the starting frequency + (Mhz/us - during the chirp time (ramp end time) is the chirp frequency range.

There is no LED during the chirp.

Radar studio has setup steps, and then when you do the configure TSW1400, (left of screen button), TSW1400 ARM, TSW1400 Trigger Frame, this causes the Radar sensor to start the frame.   In your frame configuration, with 0 no of frames it is continuous.

I would set a very low Mhz/us so you can Post Process the FMCW chirp with a metal object 2 meters from the antenna, and see a result.

The trigger select is - Software trigger, so it starts from Radar studio.

If you had a spectrum analyzer set to 77Ghz, you should see a tone at the Start Frequency ( with 0Mhz/usec).

There is a TI training for using the TSW1400, please try to follow this training first, (you can check the setup), then you could try the single tone method.

    Regards,

    Joe

  • Thanks! One more question.
    For now, I have AWR1243BOOST+MMWAVE-PACK, no TSW1400.
So can I dump beat frequency signal from AWR1243 to PC? I want to capture beat frequency to perform range-doppler processing.
Or should I have TSW1400 to do so?
So actually I can't do more with only AWR1243BOOST+MMWAVE-PACK?

    Thanks!
  • Hello,
There is a Continuous Stream tab in Radar Studio, you can set the Tx start frequency, enable a Continuous stream, the other method you described should also work.

  • Thanks Joe!
I just need one more quick answer.
If have no TSW1400 and in above figure I set 0 as NO of frames.
So does this mean that if I click set in Frame sub-window, the AWR1243 will run continuously and transmit RF signal continuously?

I will follow the training as your suggestion!
