AWR1642: How should I use mmWave tools to design my own profile & chirp configuration?

Part Number: AWR1642

Hi experts!

AS we know ,There are now three tools for profile cfg:

1)Radar Studio -> RampTimingCalculator

2)mmWaveSensingEstimator

3)mmWave Demo Visualizer

Q1:How should I use these tools to design my own profile & chirp configuration?

Thanks !

  • NanShan,

At first you can decide on your targeted application max range, max velocity, range resolution  velocity resolution .

You can input these parameters to the mmwave Sensing Estimator and derive your chirp parameters.

The chirp parameters derived from the sensing tool can be used in your chirp configuration when configuring the device front-end.

  • Hi Raghu,

    Thanks for your replies!

I understand what you mean is using mmwave Sensing Estimator to get the chirp parameters. Then use mmWave Demo Visualizer to download the parameters to configuring the device front-end.

Q1:mmwave Sensing Estimator only can get one profile for the chirp ,if i want more than one profile for a chirp ,what should I do?

Q2:Radar Studio (RampTimingCalculator) can also use to get the chirp parameters , why not use it?

Q3:The numbers of Chirp  Loops & the samples per chirp is not an exponential multiple of 2,which is inconvenient to do FFT?

  • NanShan,
A1: Use the Sensing estimator for as many chirps as you want. Then use that chirp parameters in your chirp configuration. Then use those chirps in your profile config.

A2: You can choose to use which ever tool you want to use . The Ramp timing calculator provides you with more details on the synth ramp down settling times .

A3: These are recommendations, you can add your modifications to suit your implementations. In above case, "# of Samples per Chirp :64" and "# of Chirp Loops : 128". You have brought in an interesting point wrt to the FFT . I shall feedback the tools team to restrict these parameters to exponential power 2 .

    Thanks,

  • NanShan,
If there is no further question . please close the post.
