IWR1443: Regarding IWR1443 & IWR1642

Part Number: IWR1443
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1642

Hello,

My customer is considering between the IWR1443 and IWR1642 products, since they have the same price but different configurations. They have some questions below:

(1) The IWR1443 has much higher ADC sampling rate than IWR1642, does it mean that the former one can achieve better range and angle resolution? If not, what is the benefit?

(2) The IWR1443 has one more transmitter. What is the benefit of that?

(3) The IWR1443 has additional hardware accelerator. Does it make the computation faster?

(4) The IWR1642 has additional DSP pack. What objects can it classify? Is the classifier pretrained or can be customized for applications?

(5) Can we get the DSP pack for IWR1443?

Thanks.

Best regards,

Chin

    Hello Chin,

    Thanks for your interest.

    1) Range resolution is limited by the bandwidth while the angular resolution is defined by the number of Rx antennas. The increased on-board memory of the 1642 enables higher range and resolution measurement.

For your reference, the Impact of Chirp Configuration on System Parameters app note reviews the factors that affect range, velocity and angle of arrival measurements: www.ti.com/.../swra553.pdf

    2) The additional Tx on the IWR1443 enables elevation measurement

    3) / 4) The HWA of the IWR 1443 does accelerate FFT and CFAR detection. If you are needing more advanced algorithms for computation the DSP on the IWR1642 is customizable for your application.

Please let us know if you have other questions; it may be helpful if you can provide more information about your application specific needs.

    Best,
    Amanda
