Starterware/BOOSTXL-PGA460: Difference between BOOSTXL-PGA460 & PGA460-F5529-BNDL

Part Number: BOOSTXL-PGA460
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-EXP430F5529LP, PGA460-Q1, PGA460

Tool/software: Starterware

Hello,

What is difference between  evaluation kit BOOSTXL-PGA460 & PGA460-F5529-BNDL?

I would like to purchase for ultrasonic distance measurement's evaluation..

Thanks,

Amit

  • Amit,
I recommend that you purchase the PGA460-F5529-BNDL, which is two pieces of required hardware to run the PGA460-Q1 EVM GUI: BOOSTXL-PGA460 and MSP-EXP430F5529LP

You should only order the BOOSTXL-PGA460 if you:
    • Already own a MSP-EXP430F5529LP
    • Do not intend on using the PGA460-Q1 EVM GUI
    • Exclusively intend on using a custom MCU and GUI

Please view the Ultrasonic Sensing with the PGA460-Q1 parts 1 and 2 (training.ti.com/ultrasonic-sensing-pga460-q1) for an overview of the EVM hardware.
  • Hello,

    Thanking you.

I have some more doubt, which need to clerify

    1) Does it comes with two separate transducer one for transmitter & Receiver?

    2) Or H1 (MA58MF14-7N) is used as Transmitter & Reciver?

    3) What is the purpose of J14 connector?

    4) What is maximum sensing distance with Transformer driven mode?

    Amit

  • Amit,

1&2) The PGA460-Q1 is setup for a mono-static configuration, which means only one transducer is provided for both transmit and receive. The transformer circuit is populated with the closed-top Murata MA58MF14-7N transducer (58.5kHz), while the direct drive half-bridge circuit is populated with a open-top SMD type Murata MA40H1S-R transducer (40kHz). You will need to purchase an additional transducer of the same resonant frequency to enable the separate transmit and receive bi-static mode.

    3) The J14 connector is available for the receive only transducer of a bi-static configuration. The PGA460 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and EVM Troubleshooting Guide (www.ti.com/.../slaa733) discusses how to enable bi-static mode using J14.

    4) The maximum detectable distance is dependent on the target type and operating conditions. We attempt to guarantee a minimum ISO-pole (PVC pole 1m height, 7.5cm diameter)detection up to 5m. You can detect wall or large flat surface at nearly double that distance. Refer to the PGA460 Ultrasonic Module Hardware and Software Optimization App Note (www.ti.com/.../slaa732) for details on minimum and maximum ranging restrictions.
