IWR1443: To apply the mmWave use in 3D space detection question

Part Number: IWR1443

Hi,

I have several questions about the mmWave applying in 3D space detecion, please help to provide solve methods, thanks a lot~!!

Q1:The mmWave When using the function of scanning the surface, whether with the same as the ultrasound can produce the depth of the image information ?

Q2:How to use mmWave to scan and get 3D space information?

EX:if used the IWR 1443 that have three TX antennas could we get information of 3D space? or could we use two modules or more combines to get 3D space information ?

Q3:Based on Q2, if the mmWave can get 3D space information, would you provide the height and the maximum angle of the sensor's 3D detection ability ?

  • Hi Curtis,

It sounds like you would like to use the device to produce a contour map of a surface? I have not seen the device used in this way, so I can't say off-hand if it's possible. I will check internally. Typically, the device analyzes radar returns performing FFTs on the ADC samples, so a list of objects is produced with x-y-z coordinates for each. For contour mapping, I believe you need to find the range to each point in the field of view, similar to ray tracing.
