MMWAVE-DEVPACK: MMWAVE-DEVPACK

Part Number: MMWAVE-DEVPACK

Hi

I have the demo kit  radar AWR1642. I already powered up the the BoosterPack where is placed the radar (used a power supply 5V and micro usb)  but maybe I have problem to powerup the mmWave Devpack.

I connected the mmWavePack through microusb port and the led DS6 (Vbus LED ) glow but not the led DS7 (3.3V),Do I have connect the PCB with a 3.3V power supply? if yes Do I have connect the pin14# on J4 connector?

BR,

fabrizio

  • Hello Fabrizio,

If the LED D7 is not turned ON, you may not have the jumper on JP5 (towards LDO3V3).

Please install this jumper and you will see the D7 turned ON.

There is no power supply required for DEVPACK.

    Thanks,

    Raghu

  • Hi Raghu,

The point is even with the jumper on JP5 used to connect VLDO_3V3 with BRD_3V3 the LED D7 is off.
I checked the schematic of the mmWave Pack --> the LDO (U5) that has to provide VLDO_3V3 at its pin EN (pin 8#) does not receive any 3V (high input) because I don't have any 3V on the pin 40PIN_PGOOD_3V3 in the connector J4 . Where the 3V (at pin 40PIN_PGOOD_3V3#) comes from?

  • Hello Fabrizio,

You need the radar BOOST EVM connected to the Dev Pack and powered with 5V. This would provide the 3.3V to enable the Dev Pack supply.

    Regards,

    Vivek

  • Hi Vivek,

Off course Boost EVM is connected with  Dev Pack and powered up by 5V.

All connections are done how is described  in the tutorial reason becasue I am texting you.

Today I did a double checked and  after having connected the Boost with  Dev Pack , micro usb connected with PC and Dev Pack supplied by 5 V I got the same problem LED S7 is still off.

I checked out the Boost Pack and I saw something weird becasue on the connecotor J1 pin 13# I measured by multimeter  3.3V (PGOOD) as showed below :

but on the equivalent connector P3 on the Dev Pack PCB pin 13# looks like floating (not connected) please see below:

Which pin in the connector P3 (Dev Pack PCB) I should have 3V3 in?

    BR,

    Fabrizio

  • Sorry Could you reply to my question above asap, please?

  • Hello Fabrizio,
The dev pack uses the PGOOD signal from the J4 connector , pin 14. Have you interfaced the J4 and J5 connectors of the dev pack to the EVM ?

    Regards,
    Vivek
  • Actually no....I did not know that I had to connect the J4 connector ( Devpack) with the J5 connector (EVM)

    Regards,
    Fabrizio
  • Hello Fabrizio,

You can refer to the dev pack user guide (http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/swru506/swru506.pdf , section 2.2 which refers to the connections between the Dev pack and the EVM. It talks about connecting the 20 pins connectors I am referring to.

The J4/J5 connectors of the Dev pack need to connect to the J6/J5 connectors of EVM. If you look at the snapshots in the user guide you would get an idea about visually how the two boards mate with each other.

    regards,

    Vivek
