Sensor Maximum Current drive

Part Number: LDC1314

Hi all

Would you mind if we ask LDC1314?

<Question1>
There are descriptions "Sensor Maximum Current drive" and "High current sensor drive mode:Sensor Maximum Current" on the datasheet.
Does it mean that these are clamp value of current in case of over current?
In usual case, IDRIVE = b11111, 1563µA×4 ≒ 6.0mA total??
However, in case of high current sensor drive mode, 6.0mA + 1563µA×3 = 10.5mA total??
Or, does it mean that these value are recommendation dissipation current for heat dissipation?

<Question2>
If IN0A and IN0B are shorted, will the device damage?

<Question3>
We would like to calculate the power consumption.
How much is the Rds?
And could you let us know the calculation formula of the power consumption?

Kind regards,

Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hello Hirotaka-san,

    The LDC131x will drive the configured IDRIVE current into the sensor. So, when the device is set to drive (for example) 880uA, it is always injecting that amount of current into the sensor.

    As for the High Current Sensor Drive Mode, the current is fixed at the maximum drive and does not change with IDRIVE settings.

    As for shorting INxA and INxB pins, if the pins are not used, then it is not a problem. Are you shorting INxA and INxB pins and then trying to drive the pins?

    For the Rds, are you asking about the Rds of the sensor drive? That is ~8ohms.

    You can look at current consumption calculator in the LDC tools spreadsheet to model various configurations. You can download the calculator at www.ti.com/.../slyc137 .

    Thank you for your reply!

     Are you shorting INxA and INxB pins and then trying to drive the pins?
    ->In this case, is there no damage?

    Kind regards,

    Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hello Hirotaka-san,

    There will be no damage to the part as long as the pins are not also shorted to something else like Vdd. If the part is configured to report errors, then it may indicate a ZC error.
