AWR1443: Water level measurement up to 5m with cm or mm accuaracy

Part Number: AWR1443
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642,

I wonder if it is possible to use AWR1443 or AWR1642 as distance measurement 0-5m or similar, with cm or mm accuracy for measuring water/waste water levels?

In this case having an analog output (0-3.3V, 0-5V or 4-20mA from EV board will be great)

Hmm - can it be used for flow speed measurement, too? May be not.

Any ideas?

  • Hello ,

The TI mmwave devices are capable of measurement accuracy of close to about 0.1mm.

I think you're going to be very interested in our TI Design for level sensing with a power optimization scheme. You can find an overview with all necessary documentation here:

Below post already has answered your queries:

    Thanks,

  • Thanks Raghu,

one more - when I purchase mmWave dev.kit  with 1443, it can be used for both "normal" distance and accuracy and "high precision", BOOST without change/modify

hardware on the board (or with simple one)? Is there also different antennas, etc.

    Thanks again,

    Dimitar

  • Hi Dimitar,

For this kind of measurement you are going to want to use the High Accuracy Lab for xWR1443, available on the TI Resource Explorer (dev.ti.com/.../

With this demo you should find much better than cm accuracy out of the box. With a precision mount, tank, and setup you can improve the accuracy to better than 5 mm with most measurements being better than 2 mm.

Variations are also possible in the chirp configuration but these variations have not yet been tested.

Let me know if you have any more questions at this time.

    Cheers,
    Akash
