AWR1642BOOST: mmWave Demo Visualizer for AWR1642BOOST Questions

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST

Hi team,

I have the questions for AWR1642BOOST

For AWR1642BOOST, I need to use mmWave Demo Visualizer. And I can connect mmWave Demo Visualizer with AWR1642BOOST correctly.

The connection steps are as below:

(1). I use uniflash to load the xwr16xx_mmw_demo.bin file. The xwr16xx_mmw_demo.bin file is in

"mmwave_sdk_01_01_00_02\ packages\ti\demo\xwr16xx\mmw\xwr16xx_mmw_demo.bin" folder .

And SOP0 SOP1 SOP2=101.

(2). Then I open   Visualizer in the Chrome browser. Select SDK version 1.1.

(3). Change SOP0 SOP1 SOP2=011 on the EVM. And power on the EVM. DS2 and DS4 are turned on.  DS3 is turned off.

(4). On Visualizer GUI, select Options/Serial port, then it shows "waiting for the data" on PC that is described on my above post.

(5). Click SENDCONFIG TO MMWAVE DEVICE, then it shows "Hardware connect", and on" Console Messages",

it shows "Done". Please check the attach. Then I note DS3 is turned on.

Before I do not download the xwr16xx_mmw_demo.bin file to AWR1642BOOST, I cannot connect mmWave Demo Visualizer with AWR1642BOOST.

My questions:

Q1: If I need to connect  Visualizer correctly, do I need to load the xwr16xx_mmw_demo.bin file which is in

"mmwave_sdk_01_01_00_02\ packages\ti\demo\xwr16xx\mmw\xwr16xx_mmw_demo.bin" folder through uinflash first

and then change SOP0 SOP1 SOP2=011?

Q2: Are my steps correct?

Q3: When I connect Visualizer correctly,  DS3 is turned on, is this fine? No issue?

  • Mickey,

Please see the below details in the user guide for functional mode and flashing mode settings of the SOP .

Once you have flashed the " xwr16xx_mmw_demo.bin" to the AWR1642BOOST you will need to have only the SOP0(Functional mode) closed to use the mmwave demo visualizer.

You cannot be in the  SOP2 and SOP1 closed as you have on your setup.

Please change the SOP setting and you should be able to use the demo visualizer with your device.

    Thanks,

    -Raghu

  • Hi Raghunandan,

Thank you for your support. On page 12 of the AWR1642BOOST User Guide, it shows the different

mode for SOP0 SOP1 and SOP2. Since these questions are very common than many customers ask,

    I would like to verify.

Before I do not load the xwr16xx_mmw_demo.bin file to AWR1642BOOST, I cannot connect mmWave Demo

Visualizer with AWR1642BOOST. After I load the xwr16xx_mmw_demo.bin file to AWR1642BOOST, and change

SOP0 SOP1 SOP2=001(functional mode) or 011(dev mode), then I can connect mWave Demo Visualizer correctly.

Q1: You mean if I need to connect mWave Demo Visualizer correctly, I need to load the

xwr16xx_mmw_demo.bin file first, and then change SOP0 SOP1 SOP2=001(functional mode), correct?

Q2: What is the dev mode that is SOP0 SOP1 SOP2=011? Why I cannot use the dev mode to connect

    mWave Demo Visualizer ?
  • Hello Mickey,
A1: After flashing the xwr16xx_mmw_demo.bin , for functional mode only SOP0 is closed. and not SOP2 as mentioned in your query.
A2: "dev mode" is development mode . To work in this mode , the flash should be clean and firmware is downloaded over SPI(Eg: RadarStudio) . You cannot have a functional firmware loaded in the flash and then work in the dev mode(SOP:011) .

    Thanks,
    Raghu
