TDC1000-C2000EVM: Dropouts in level measurements

Part Number: TDC1000-C2000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDC1000

Hi,

I'm doing a sloshing test, the level is measured with the TDC1000. I use the GUI to record one hour the signal.

Unfortunately, the signal often turns off during the measurement and stops for some seconds. It then no longer measures every signal, some are missing,

then I have only 450s recording for one hour (3600s). This occurs especially when the water sloshs very much. When the water moves just a bit, each signal is recorded.

How can I solve the problem?

Thank You.

  • Hello,

  • Hi Katharina,

In this case the sloshing appears to be making it impossible for the TDC1000 to detect the return echo. If the disturbances in the medium are great enough, the signal will not make it back to the transducer with enough amplitude to detect. The most common way to mitigate the effects of sloshing is to use a focus tube that will both increase SNR within the tube (acting as a waveguide) and minimize the change in level within the tube when the whole container is moved.

The tube should have an interior diameter of the same size as the transducer being used and will have small holes in the bottom that allow fluid from the rest of the tank to fill to the same level within the tube.

    Regards,
