AWR1243BOOST: RX antenna gain measurement on the AWR1243BOOST?

Part Number: AWR1243BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1243

Can TI recommend a method for measuring the antenna gain (over azimuth and elevation) of the RX antennas on the AWR1243BOOST?

  • Hello Jonathan,
To accurately measure the antenna gain you would need another board with just the antenna present with a feed point to inject a known amplitude signal. But using AWR1243BOOST you can get an approximate idea of the gain by assuming the TX output power from the AWR1243 device. With the max o/p setting the TX power is typically around 11-12 dBm. Given this information you need to have a calibrated receive antenna on the other end placed at the location you want to measure the antenna gain. By looking at the amplitude of the received signal on the receiver antenna, you can substrate the receiver antenna gain and the propagation loss in the air (based on the distance) to get the transmit antenna gain.
