tdc1000: Audiowell 1Mhz tranducer diving frequency issue

Part Number: TDC1000

Hi Scott,

am working on water flow metering but am unable to drive 1Mhz transducer from Audio-well that has resonant frequency of 975+/- 25Kz ,driving voltage is less than 5Vp-p,15mm diameter

1)i am providing 1Mhz frequency to drive transducer but it is not working i have doubt that should i use IFT to boost in the tx signal from tdc1000..?

2)can you please suggest me schematic to drive 1Mhz transducer using TDC1000.

  • Hi Rashmi,

    1. Is there no square wave output coming from the TDC1000? Or are you just not able to see a return signal on the receiver side? What does the system look like? Are there two transducers firing toward one another?

    2. Please see the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM User's guide for a full schematic. This shows our recommended setup for transducer connection. www.ti.com/.../sniu021a.pdf

    Regards,
  • Hello scott,
    1) am getting perfect square wave and tx burst to drive trandsucer but am getting 78volt peak to peak voltage but i need 5volt peak to peak.

    2) i tried same circuit as shown in the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM users guide but output at the tdc1000 TX1 is 1Mhz,78Volt peak to peak but my transducer needs 5Vpeak to peak what is the method to get 5Volt peak to peak.
  • Hi Rashmi,

Is 78V a typo? The TDC1000 has a recommended operating voltage (VDD) of up to 5.5V, and the output voltage is up to VDD-0.32V, so the highest you should see on the output is 5.18V unless there is some external circuitry boosting the voltage.

If you mean that it is 78mV peak to peak then first I would check the VDD voltage. The minimum recommended operating voltage is 2.7V, so the output should be 0.32V to 2.38V. If the VDD is too low you may run into a condition where the part is somehow still on, but cannot drive the output.

Please double check the VDD voltage, and make sure the wiring matches the example from the EVM.

    Regards,
  • Hello scott,

1)I have checked the VDD voltage am getting 5volts and my transmitting burst voltage is around 700mv to 800mv

i)how can i boost this signal strength ..?

ii)should i add any other booster circuit because my transducer needs 3 to 5 volts voltsge,1Mhz frequency and i don't have issue with frequency' please sugggest me how can i boost Tx signal voltage .

  • Hi Scott,

i have tried audio-well transducer with TDC 1000 it is not triggering because it needs 5v peak to peak voltage but am getting in milivolts i tried transistor switching circuit to boost the voltage level then also it is not working is there a problem with  Audio-well transducer....?

1)This Transducer was referred by one of the TI's Documents.

    Regards
