OPT3001: Can you use it for only it's INT pin?

Part Number: OPT3001

I have a customer who needs an ALS for purely a comparator style trip feature.

Can the part be factory programmed with all the right settings, but then populated on the board with only its VDD, GND, and INT pin connected? It wouldn't need to report any I2C data (since there isnt even an MCU to talk to in the system), and all it would do is have the INT pin trip high when the Lux value drops below a certain point?

Thanks,

Brian

  • Hi Brian,

OPT3001 does have Transparent Hysteresis-Style Comparison Mode, which allows the interrupt pin to output whether the light level is below or above a threshold. However, the device still needs to be configured using I2C on power up and there is no way to factory program the device.

Would you mind providing some details on the application and why the I2C is not wanted? Is the main reason that there is no MCU on the board or are there other factors? We would like to understand the market and use-cases for this type of device. Feel free to send me an email (bhandari at ti.com) if you'd rather share details there.

    Best,

    Alex
