TMP431: About the manually selected beta range.

Part Number: TMP431

Hello,

Regarding to the manually selected beta range on TMP431, my customer is asking a question.

(Question)

What is different point between automatically selected range and manually selected range?

(Beta Compensation Configuration Register : 1xxx and 0xxx)

According to the datasheet page22, select the proper beta range,

and measure the sensor temperature appropriately on automatically selected range.

I couldn’t make clear what point manually selected range is different.

Tao2199

  • Tao,

I will have a look at this and get back to you soon.

  • Hi Tao,

At the time of release, automatic beta range selection was a new feature in the market. We recommend that customers take advantage of this feature for it s convenience. However, our device is also capable of manually selecting a range the same as our competitors. When using manual selection, the device will not change ranges.

    Thanks,
    Ren
  • Hello Kelvin,

    Thank you for reply.
About the selected beta range, I am confused a little yet.

    (1) In case of automatic beta range selection,
The device will detect beta value automatically and will select beta range on Beta Compensation Configuration Register automatically.
    (Pointer address :0x25 , 1xxx)
For example, device detects “0.2” as beta and the automatically selected range 1 (1001) will be selected automatically.
    My understanding is correct?
    (2) In case of manually beta range selection,
At first, the user need to know beta value and they need to select proper beta range manually.
For example, the user knows beta “0.2” and select the manually beta range 0(0000) manually.
    (Pointer address :0x25 , 0xxx)
    My understanding is correct?

  • Hi Tao,

Yes, your understanding is correct. However, regarding question #2, you could choose 0000, 0001 or 0010 according to Table 10 Page 28.

    Thanks,
